2.0-LITRE HORIZONTALLY OPPOSED BOXER ENGINE

Subaru's active safety system is anchored on the masterful matching of the horizontally opposed engine, symmetrical drive train and Subaru's AWD System. The gutsy Boxer engine has a horizontal, symmetrical layout, which allows it to sit low in the engine bay. From engine to transmission and propeller shaft to rear differential, the entire AWD power train is in a perfectly straight line, with a symmetrical horizontal layout.

CRASH SAFE BODY

Even though the Impreza WRX's active safety features are designed to keep you out of potentially volatile situations, accidents do happen and Subaru's passive safety system is one of the best around. The engine compartment and boot on all vehicles are designed to crush when struck during a collision, so a minimum of shock is transmitted to the cabin. Side door beams offer protection from a side. The steering support beam inhibits rearward movement of the steering wheel, and the columns are designed to absorb the shock of impact.

BRAKES

Something up head to stop you dead in your tracks? The Impreza WRX's high quality brakes are a crucial element in the Subaru active safety system. The Impreza WRX has ventilated four-wheel disk brakes for improved performance and reduced brake fade. The unique dual-channel cross-piping system also enhances braking reliability and performance.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM

If you need to come to a grinding halt you won't lose out traction or steering control with the Impreza WRX's ABS system. The system comprises of an ABS computer and a Hydraulic Control Unit. The ABS computer measures the speed of each wheel and determines whether that wheel is about to, or already has locked. The Hydraulic Control Unit then regulates the pressure at each wheel brake so wheel decelerates at a rate at which traction can be maintained.

SUSPENSION

Up front we have fitted Macpherson strut type, independent, coil spring suspension. On the rear there is a dual link strut type, independent set-up with coil springs.
